Alpha and Omega

Alpha and Omega

The story of two wolves, Kate and Humphrey who live in Jasper National Park, both of whom know their place in the pack. Kate is the alpha, the leader, and Humphrey the omega, who harbours a long held but hopeless love for her. Kate is forced into an “arranged marriage” with Garth, the leader of a rival pack, to ensure that there will be peace, however, before that can happen, both Kate and Humphrey are removed from jasper and taken to another National Park to help with a repopulation project. Kate is determined to fulfil her obligation and the pair of them escape and start the long and arduous trek back to Jasper but during that time their mutual attraction grows until, by the time they return, they have fallen for each other completely. Which makes life complicated with Garth!

It’s a movie aimed squarely at the kiddies, with a fairly standard plot that isn’t really anything new but then it doesn’t need to be. There are “morals of the story” laid on thickly and heavy handily for some tastes but then what else would you expect from a story like this. Two cute animals fall in love and go on a journey of discovery. There are a lot of fun characters which keep popping up to keep the action and the comedy going, including a strange Canadian Goose called Marcel who is one of the highlights of the movie whenever he appears. Some very nice 3D sequences which give a real depth of field to the forests and some amusing moments with golf balls flying directly towards the audience which are sure to cause a few yelps of excitement from the youngsters.

It’s not a movie that an adult will get much out of but it’s a diverting and exciting tale for kids with a lot of good comedy moments, so one to watch if you want to keep them quiet for a couple of hours!
